Tony Woolliscroft

Thunderhat built a WordPress portfolio site for Tony Woolliscroft, a music and book-cover photographer. The site leads with large, high-resolution galleries in a clean layout that lets the photography speak for itself.

The brief

Tony needed a site that would show his live-music and book-cover work to publishers, editors and bands. It had to be fast, easy to update and built around the images rather than the interface.

Preparation

We started with a review of his existing image library and the way clients were finding him. Most enquiries came through word of mouth and Google, so the site needed to rank for his name and for local photography searches without slowing down the galleries.

Image handling

We set up WordPress to serve properly sized images on phones, tablets and desktops. Full-width gallery shots load at the right resolution for the screen in front of them.

Page speed

A photography site is only as good as its loading time. We kept the theme light, limited plugins and used lazy loading so visitors see the first image immediately.

Search visibility

We added clean page titles, alt text and a simple structure so Google can index the galleries and understand what Tony photographs.

The work

We built a custom WordPress theme with a full-width gallery layout. The homepage opens with a single strong image, then moves into grouped galleries for live music, portraits and book covers.

  • Large preview images with a lightbox for full-screen viewing
  • Simple navigation that stays out of the way
  • Mobile-first layout that works on phones and tablets
  • Fast loading through compressed images and lazy loading
  • Easy backend so Tony can add new shoots himself

The result

The site gives Tony a professional portfolio that loads quickly and shows his work at its best. It ranks for his name and for relevant local searches, and it gives him a simple way to add new galleries after each shoot.

A photography portfolio only works if the images arrive quickly and look sharp on every screen. This one does both.
