About Thunderhat

Affordable, hard-working websites for small businesses — since 2004.

Hi, I'm Tim Laws. I've been building affordable, hard-working websites for small businesses since 2004.

Thunderhat began with a simple goal: make great websites affordable for small businesses. Back then web design felt out of reach for local companies — high prices, agencies chasing big brands, smaller businesses left behind. I wanted to change that.

Twenty-plus years on, the values haven't changed. Every project still starts with a conversation, not a sales pitch. I listen, I design, and I build with care — whether it's a one-page site for a startup, an SEO campaign to boost visibility, or a full online booking system.

Since 2004

A few of Thunderhat's previous clients

An eclectic mix of people, ideas and industries — from family-run shops to early social networks and future pop stars. Here are a few who've trusted Thunderhat to bring their websites to life.

JakeTM

An early social network for gay professionals in London, created by Ivan Massow. A proper Web 2.0 time capsule, years before social media became the noisy circus it is today.

Kids No Object

A single-parent dating agency from 2005, back when online dating still felt new and slightly mysterious. Thunderhat moved KNO from a paper-based (!) system to an online platform that made connections feel simple and safe.

Liam Payne

Before the stadium tours and global fame, Liam needed a small site to help launch his early music career. A tiny part in the story before One Direction took over the world.

Algerian Coffee Stores

One of Soho's oldest and most iconic coffee shops. Thunderhat built their first e-commerce site — a modern way to sell beans and brews online without losing the character that makes them so loved.

Fowey Fish

A family-run fresh fish business on the Cornish coast. Their e-commerce site brought a bit of seaside character to the web and helped customers order the catch of the day from anywhere.

The Curtain Works

A long-established curtain and soft furnishings shop in Stafford. Thunderhat refreshed their digital presence so a traditional business could keep thriving in a modern marketplace.

The Titan Partnership

A Birmingham-based teacher training provider. Thunderhat built a private online portal giving trainee teachers a place to connect, share resources and support each other throughout their training.

Hoxton Whores

London DJs with a bold, instantly recognisable sound. Their website needed to capture that energy — so Thunderhat built something that felt as lively as their sets.

Activities Away

An outdoor activity centre in Lincolnshire — open water swimming to family adventures. Thunderhat built a site that made booking clear and welcoming, so visitors could focus on the fun.

Institute of Residential Property Management

An events website that helped IRPM bring their professional community together — making it easier for members to discover, book and navigate industry events.

Chard Robinson / Baulogic

Property development meets smart-home innovation. Thunderhat built a polished web presence that showcased their projects while highlighting the tech woven into each home.

Ornitholidays / Cruises for Nature

The UK's premier bird watching and nature tour specialists. Each year Thunderhat created a fresh brochure-style site for upcoming tours — clear, inviting, ready for the next adventure.
