Hawkes Decor & Design Ltd is a decorating business serving Berkshire and the surrounding areas, with more than 20 years of experience. We built a new website for them using Astro and worked on the site structure and content to support organic search visibility. This case study explains what was done and why.

The brief

Hawkes Decor needed a website that presented the business clearly and made it easy for potential customers to understand the services on offer and the areas covered. The previous site had served its purpose but was due a refresh. The owner wanted a faster, cleaner site that would be simple to update and would give the business a solid foundation for local search.

About the client

Hawkes Decor provides painting and decorating services for domestic and commercial customers across Berkshire and nearby counties. The company has built its reputation over two decades, and the website needed to reflect that experience without overcomplicating the message. The new site focuses on the main services, the areas covered and a straightforward way to get in touch.

The website build

We rebuilt the site with Astro, a static site generator that produces fast, lightweight pages. That matters for two reasons: visitors on mobile connections are not kept waiting, and Google rewards quick-loading pages with better visibility. The site is responsive and works well on phones, which is how most people now find a decorator.

Structure and navigation

We kept the navigation simple. The main menu points to the key services and the contact page, so nobody has to hunt for information. Each service has its own page, which gives the content room to answer common questions and helps search engines understand what the business does.

Content management

The site is built to be maintainable. Content changes are made in plain text files, which means no database overhead and no plugin updates to worry about. The owner can request changes and they can be made quickly without rebuilding the whole site.

The SEO work

The SEO work focused on making the site easy for search engines to crawl and understand. We structured the service pages around the main offerings, used clear page titles and meta descriptions, and made sure internal links pointed to the most important pages.

Location pages

Hawkes Decor covers a wide area, so we created location pages for the main towns and villages served. These pages describe the services available in each area and link back to the relevant service pages. The aim is to match the way people search: "decorator in Reading" is a different search from "painting and decorating services", and the site needs to answer both.

Ongoing work

The initial SEO work is complete, but search visibility is never a one-off job. The site is now in a good position to build on, and we continue to monitor performance and adjust content as needed.
